It was great to chat with Hiram. He is genuinely knowledgeable and passionate about wedding photography. His unique style and approach create eye capturing pictures that you will talk about for decades. I hope you enjoy this post as much as I did!
Priya: Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been in the wedding business? Why do you like wedding photography?
Hiram: I have been a wedding photographer for 10 years now...how time flies! I started doing fashion and artistic photography and quickly fell in love with the story-telling. It is why I love wedding photography. I have been fortunate to have amazing couples that share their lives and families with me on the most important day of their life.
Priya: How does a couple find the right photographer for them?
Hiram: Each couple is unique, and the couple must be comfortable with the photographer. They need to have complete trust with their photographer. Meet with your photographer in person if possible. I have many international clients, and I schedule a Skype meetings so we can get to know each other. I want to know what they are looking for and I get my inspiration for their photoshoots from their story, so one on one consults are priceless to me.
Priya: How many photographers/videographers are needed for South Asian events?
Hiram: This one is a tough one. The number one problem I see in some weddings is overcrowding. I only advise my couples to have the necessary number of photographer that will do the job of capturing the story of the wedding. For the most part, all important things will happen around the bride and groom. You want to start with two photographers at any wedding even for small intimate weddings. However, you don't want more than 4 tops at any wedding. By having two, you can get different angles as well as having both sides of the family covered at the same time.
Priya: What is the best photography package for a couple that wants to highlight their wedding?
Hiram: I customize all of my collection to all of my clients. Everyone has different needs, and every wedding is unique so I base it upon their needs. I do always suggest to them to go with unlimited coverage, yes it's a bit more of an investment; however, it is less of a headache in the end, and you don't have to worry about going over the original hours and overages from that. In the end, it can be less of investment especially if you have a packed timeline.
Priya: Are there additional pre-wedding photoshoots couples should look into to make their wedding day more special?
Hiram: Yes! I always have other shoots. This is basically our first date. We get to know each other then so by the time the wedding comes we have built a relationship and trust. I always advise being adventurous. Do a destination shoot if you are getting married in the city you live in. This will give you impactful images and something to talk about well after your wedding. All of my couples love to shoot at a different destination, and their pictures displayed at their wedding are always a hit.
Priya: How should a couple prepare for a pre-wedding photoshoot?
Hiram: The couple should be bold but most importantly comfortable. Dress for the occasion, and take precautions. I always send tips to all of my couples to make sure that they are ready for the weather, destination, etc. It is very different to shoot at ocean level than in the mountains so I always make sure they know the ins and outs of where we will be and what safety precautions we need to take. I am an experienced rock climber with mountaineering training, so I have all the equipment for when my couples really want to push their shoots and are adventurous.
